Kindergarten Program

Silkwood Stars provides 3 year and 4 year old Funded Kindergarten programs which are based on the Victorian Early Years Learning and Developmental Framework (VEYLDF), incorporating fundamental components from Montessori and Reggio Emilia approaches. Our Funded Kindergarten program is delivered by a qualified kindergarten teacher.

Our educators use the Montessori approach to deliver a unique, well planned and structured kindergarten program. Children are free to follow their own interests and are empowered to make their own choices and decisions about their learning within a structured environment. Our Montessori learning materials provide children with hands-on learning experiences which develop self-help skills, fine motor skills, literacy, numeracy, language, social skills and executive functioning. These are the key learning areas for children’s school-readiness.

Our emergent curriculum reflects the Reggio Emilia approach where educators make curriculum decisions by observing, asking questions and listening to children’s ideas. Our indoor-outdoor program allows children to move around the spaces freely and provides plenty of choices and opportunities for their learning and exploration. We provide a program and environment which supports children’s social and emotional wellbeing thereby facilitating them to build positive relationships with peers and educators and assisting them to make a positive transitions from Kindergarten to school.

School-readiness is actively facilitated in our Kindergarten where children regularly participate in various activities that develop children’s attention span, physical skills, emotional regulation, social interactions and play and problem solving skills. The Kindergarten program runs five days a week; Monday to Friday between 8:30 am and4:00 pm. Our childcare program continues before and after the kindergarten hours for children who attend long day care in conjunction with our Kindergarten program.
